Start with how it feels
Simple choices help a young person begin without having to label everything perfectly.
A better first step
Sidekickz gives young people a simpler way to share a worry with an adult they trust, while helping schools notice, respond and follow up.
Start where you feel comfortable. You do not need the perfect words.
Choose a trusted adult and share as much or as little as you can. They can then check in with you.
Try the choices. This concept does not collect or send anything.
Walking into an office and beginning a difficult conversation can feel enormous. Sidekickz creates another way in, without moving trained adults out of the picture.
No cold incident form. No need to know the official category. Just a calmer first move and a visible route forward.
Simple choices help a young person begin without having to label everything perfectly.
Share what happened, ask for a check-in or raise a concern about someone else.
The concern follows the setting's agreed route so the right person can review it.
Actions and check-ins form a useful chronology instead of disappearing into a completed inbox.
School-configured indicators can help staff prioritise and route concerns. The setting remains responsible for its thresholds, safeguarding policy and response.
A lower-level worry can be acknowledged and given a clear check-in point.
A concern needing attention can reach the chosen or designated member of staff.
An urgent concern should follow the setting's immediate safeguarding procedure.
Human judgement stays in charge. Labels and notifications may support prioritisation, but they do not replace a trained adult, professional judgement or statutory safeguarding duties.
The friendly front door is only half the job. Staff need clear ownership, useful context and a response route that fits the setting.
A safeguarding tool has to work for the young person asking for help and the adults responsible for responding.
Not everyone finds it easy to begin face to face. Sidekickz is designed to make asking for help feel calmer and more in your control.
Give pupils a clearer way in while helping pastoral and safeguarding teams route, review and document concerns consistently.
Families should understand what the tool does, who is responsible for responding and how it fits the setting's wider safeguarding approach.
Young people should never be promised secrecy that a school cannot keep. Trust comes from clear expectations, appropriate access and visible human responsibility.
Explain who may receive a concern, what confidentiality means and when information may need to be shared.
Plan access around safeguarding responsibilities rather than making sensitive information broadly visible.
Make ownership, status and next actions clear so a concern is not mistaken for a completed response.
Use technology to support timely action, never to automate away context or professional responsibility.
Sidekickz is being developed to make it easier for young people to ask for help early and easier for responsible adults to respond well. The goal is not to replace a conversation. It is to help that conversation begin.
Safeguarding technology should be clear about its role and its limits.
Sidekickz is inviting conversations with schools, youth settings and safeguarding partners while the platform and pilot approach are developed. Registering interest is not a purchase or commitment.
Sidekickz begins with the young person's experience and route into support. How it connects with a setting's recording systems, policies and workflows would be agreed during product development and piloting.
The reporting model must be configured carefully with each setting. Young people should always be told whether a message is named, anonymous or confidential, who can access it and when information may need to be shared to keep someone safe.
Urgent concerns should follow the setting's established safeguarding procedure and be reviewed by responsible adults. Sidekickz is not monitored as an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. Young people can also contact Childline free on 0800 1111.
No. It is being designed as a communication and safeguarding-support platform. It should direct young people towards appropriate help without pretending to provide counselling or emergency monitoring.
We would like to hear from schools, colleges, youth organisations and safeguarding specialists interested in early conversations or future pilots.
